La Serranía.... Mallorca, Spain

October
2 - 9, 2010

Engage in the pleasure of making art “on location” in the lushness of Mallorca. We’ll explore experimental drawing and painting techniques here at La Serrania and on several sites around the island. We’ll develop a generous description of drawing through the use of cut-outs, tracing, transfer, brush-work and mark-making techniques. Exercises in observation and composition will prepare the way for making larger works. You will be encouraged to freely experiment with your original work, allowing one drawing to morph into another. Feel your confidence and your originality grow as you learn to translate what you see into drawings and paintings.

There will be field trips to the local market and other sites for inspiration. Participants will bring a small art kit (see below), and other basic materials will be provided. Suitable for all levels. No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to experience yourself and your surroundings anew.

Materials fee: $40

Note: a good resource: Zen of Drawing, Frederick Franck, Bantam Books, NY, 1993
